HVAC is an important investment in your home. Not only does it help to increase…
Why Are Clean AC Coils Important?
Your air conditioning system is a composite of many parts, all of which contribute to its overall performance and efficiency. Keeping these components clean and well-maintained lets you enjoy effective and energy efficient air conditioning. In this post, our team here at Petrocelli Services focuses on your AC’s evaporator and condenser coils, and why having them cleaned should always be a part of your annual AC maintenance routine.
Evaporator and condenser coils are central to your AC’s functionality:
Your air conditioning system cools the air inside your home via a continuous cycle of evaporation and condensation. Refrigerant evaporates in the evaporator coil located in your indoor unit, thus cooling the coil down and allowing it to extract heat from the indoor air. Post this, the refrigerant travels to the condenser coil, where it condenses, releases heat, and resumes its journey to the evaporator coil. As such, the core functionality of your AC system relies on its evaporator and condenser coils.
Dirty coils always spell trouble for your AC:
Your AC might be able to labor on for a while despite its coils being dirty. However, over time, dirty coils can lead to serious air conditioning problems. A dirty evaporator coil will be unable to absorb enough heat from the surrounding air, thus getting much colder than it’s supposed to be. Any moisture that condenses on it will thus begin to freeze. Ice formation on your evaporator coil is never a good sign. It insulates the coil and slows down the cooling process even further, leading to an overworked AC, rising energy bills, and the growing probability of expensive AC repairs.
Dirty condenser coils aren’t any better. They obstruct heat dissipation, causing overheating and placing your AC’s compressor at risk. It is thus important to pay attention to your AC’s coils, and have them thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis. Because condenser coils tend to remain dirty even after a round of brushing and hosing, and because evaporator coils are best cleaned when dismounted, we always recommend the professional route when it comes to AC coil cleaning.
