Good Attic Ventilation is a Must for Your Air Conditioning Unit
Sometimes we tend to ignore the things we cannot see. After all, it’s human nature, but do so at your peril where you’re A/C unit is concerned. Now if you’re wondering what we mean by something you cannot see, we’re not talking about air, we’re talking about your attic.
If you don’t know how an attic can affect the efficiency and running costs of air conditioning, then you are in for a surprise. Let’s take a hot summer’s day. Your air conditioning unit is working pretty much to the max, which isn’t good news for two reasons. First, A/C units cost money to run, and if it is operating flat out, then it’s not being totally efficient, and it’s costing you loads. Second, the harder you make you’re A/C unit work, the sooner it is going to wear out or break down.
Now where does your attic come into the equation? Well when was the last time you were up there on a hot sunny day? What did it remind you of? Yes, that’s right, a sauna. The hotter your attic gets, the more of that heat is going to make its way into other rooms in your home, forcing your air conditioning unit to work harder than it needs.
So what’s the solution? Proper attic ventilation. It doesn’t cost much, but it will help noticeably reduce the running costs of you’re A/C unit, as well as greatly prolong its life. Ventilating your attic helps bring its temperature down to far nearer that of the other rooms in your home, thus reducing the amount of work you’re A/C unit has to do.
